Alt-country Melbourne five-piece, Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel, will release its highly-anticipated new single, ‘Beat Gets Louder’, this Friday 5 August.
‘Beat Gets Louder’ is the first single from the band’s forthcoming self-titled album due to be released on Friday 14 October.
Recorded with producer Shane O’Mara (Tim Rogers, Lisa Miller, The Audreys) at Yikesville Studios, ‘Beat Gets Louder’ captures all the swagger, sway and sauce of their live performance.
“Writing Beat Gets Louder was such a fun adventure,” Kimber said today.
“We have played a lot of shows over the past three years to many different audiences and I love nothing more than watching people creep onto the dance floor, negotiating their entrance and first moves. This song is written about and for those characters; it’s a very fun song to play live!”
It’s been almost three years since Kimber and The Rollin’ Wheel members – Jacob Cole, Beth Kimber, Cat Leahy and Trent McKenzie – came together in mid-2008, all with roots in rural Australia but now living within minutes of each other in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Since that time they have appeared at over 30 festivals and performed at dozens of other venues around the country from folk festivals to raucous city bars and country pubs.
In the past year the talented group has also toured internationally and supported the likes of Kasey Chambers and Pieta Brown (USA) on local shores.
Sal Kimber emerged in the Victorian roots and alt-country scene in 2008 with her debut album, ‘Sounds Like Thunder’.
A gifted songwriter, skilled vocalist, guitarist and old-time banjo player, Kimber’s work has already won a variety of awards including the APRA Darebin Songwriting Award, Port Fairy Folk Festival Emerging Artist of the Year, and the Victorian Female Vocalist of the Year at last year’s Victorian & National Country Music Awards.
Described by the Greg Champion (ABC) as “the most refreshing, exciting and frighteningly talented artist I’ve seen in some years”, Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel has garnered a strong following for its engaging and dynamic live performances.
Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel will play a special show to launch ‘Beat Gets Louder’ at the Workers’ Club in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy on Saturday 6 August. For more information visit www.salkimber.com
